We wanted to spend as much time as possible at The Farmers’ Market by Karen Anand. The issue was with it being on Sunday, which is meant to be Tugga’s day. Karen herself assured us the evening before that we could bring in Tugga and in other cities, she actually organizes kids activity corners in the Farmers’ Market; so we decided to take Tugga along with or without kids activities.

A relatively more warm mid November Sunday morning and the 3 of us are headed to The Taj Bengal Kolkata for the Farmers’ market by Karen Anand.

Already a popular brand by itself, the Farmers’ Market has already happened in 5 cities and more than once. This was the second time in Kolkata. In Karen’s words – she wants to make it bigger and introduce more and more local produces and unearth some more hidden gems from the state/ city.

Coming up – An exclusive conversation with Karen Anand . Some Amazing facts

It was a carnival. Karen had herself recommended Burrata Station and we started our exploration with that. Karen herself prepared the sample plates for us with some truffle oil, home made basil pesto and fresh tomatoes. Burrata is basically an Italian cheese made of Buffalo milk and is round in shape with the outer lining being mozzarella and the inside being buttery with cream and mozzarella. We loved it so much that we bought one tub for dinner.

The mood was very festive and even though the weather was a dampener, everybody present were in high spirits. There were plenty of stalls with organic and healthy produce. From exotic cheeses, cold pressed juices, organic honey to bee wax lip balms, fascinating tea blends, pure saffron and freshly baked cookies and brownies, the market had it all.

By noon, the rooftop was swarming with people, in trendy clothes and interesting eye gear. The mood was celebratory and there was air was filled with a bouquet of aroma from different food stalls. There were the ever popular Chicago pizza and Piccadilly Square churning out pizzas, sandwiches and baked goodies. Then there were a few stalls like the Food Studio, Hakuna Matata and What’s Cooking which had some quirky and unusual dishes from around the world. Taj Bengal had their own food stall serving up some chicken and paneer shawarmas.

There were impressive range of teas, with Assam 1860 ( a brand which we have tasted before ), Glenburn Tea Direct, Te-a-me, personalized prepared tea mixes by Tea Trove and organic teas from CHA. If you were a coffee person, there was Nettare Beverages presenting their newly launched coffee, freshly roasted. The spiritual people also had a wonderful time with Sula Wines and Kingfisher beer offering the spirits for the guests.

We ended up picking a lot of conserves and sauces from Karen’s newly launched gourmet products like the extraordinary black pepper sauce, the super delicious whole strawberry conserve and the orange marmalade, the harissa sauce and the thousand island dressing.

Kolkata is famous for all the festivals that happen here. From handicrafts to Industrial fair, from book fair to leather Expo and I foresee that soon, Karen’s Farmers’ market is going to be a very important and permanent fixture of Kolkata festival calendar.

The pictures will perhaps tell you 1000 words more .

We were invited to this event on behalf of Kolkata food bloggers  and its always a pleasure to meet Archita , Arundhati and Sayantani – our co bloggers from KFB.
