Do you fall in love with all the places that you travel to? Do you feel like not coming back from a place? I guess that happens every time when you visit a great place of your liking. While we were there, amidst all the memories that we have of good food, night life, there was Platis Gialos – the place where we were put up and Paradise beach- where we had a crazy family day; so much so that the girls got majorly drunk and had to be almost carried back home and one of them finally opened her eyes the next day. However, the one place which we would love to go back over and over again is Little Venice.
A small island that Mykonos is, we had hired our cars to move around the island and parking is not at all an issue. So we happened to go to this place almost thrice in a span of two days. Little Venice in Mykonos Island , starts from Alevkantra beach and stretches to peripheral areas of Kastro. The windmills are the main attraction on the way to Little Venice. These majestic beauties are the landmark of Little Venice and stands out strikingly along the sea line. Mind you, there is a beach which is really small and insignificant. What is remarkable is the way the cobbled roads lead to the rows of white houses overlooking the sea, bang on the sea with their windows witnessing the splash from the breaking waves.
It’s called Mikri Venetia in local language. The mornings are white. The traditional white buildings reflect so much of rays of bright sun that the otherwise characteristic blue coloured water of Aegean Sea is unnoticeable. As a photographer, you shouldn’t bother about the lights at all. The White cobbled roads on the way to the houses on the shore starts looking brighter on a sunny day. As you start walking along the stretch of Little Venice, there are a few restaurants by the sea and inevitably, as the waves crash, you will feel the sea water being carried by the breeze to you.
This is a food lover’s paradise. Considered as one of the most romantic places on earth, just like Santorini, you cannot help but fall in love when in Mykonos. The place wakes up in the evenings and the party never stops. From Greek to European to world food, you can get almost everything here. Evening is the best time to see the glorious view of the sun set. The otherwise white houses on the shore, which were radiating white across the plain land, has a golden glow on them now from the setting sun, as if someone has painted the houses with colours.
Most of the houses are believed to be built by rich sailors or merchants or captains of the ships and the first one to be built was around the 18th century. The number of tourists confirm to the fact that this place is one of the most popular tourist places in Europe. While on your way to little Venice don’t forget to hop into some of the stores alongside the road. Merchandise, dresses, Swimming costumes and beautiful jewellery – there are stuff worth buying.
It’s the sun set in Little Venice in Mykonos Island surrounded by Aegean Sea which will create the turmoil in you and her too. That’s the time to hold a hand. That’s the time to say I love you. Once she holds the hand, lose your way in the bylanes of Mykonos, the churches, small cafe shops, local merchandise…. Lose your way and never come back to the reality. The sunset at Little Venice is magical and I too held her hands and what happened thereafter?
