Following its 2025 debut edition on Mumbai, Heirloom Cities returns with a latest volume on Kolkata, a lavishly designed exploration of the city’s food culture and culinary history. Edited by Madhushree Basu Roy and Anindya Basu, the book traces how colonial trade, migration, and local traditions shaped Kolkata’s kitchens, street food and eating habits through essays, recipes, photography, and illustration. Conceived as a cultural archive and collectible object, it brings together writers, historians, and designers to document one of India’s most vibrant food cities.
Heirloom Cities’ newest edition, Heirloom Kolkata, shines the spotlight on Calcutta and presents the vibrancy of its culinary traditions, customs, history and charisma in an extensively researched coffee-table book. This book has been edited by Kolkata based food writers Anindya Sundar Basu and Madhushree Basu Roy. The photographs are by Anindya Sundar Basu
